The Hans Wegner Peacock armchair reissued by Diiiz: an iconic and ergonomic armchair

The Hans Wegner-inspired Peacock armchair has a uniquely distinctive back, recalling the shape of a peacock’s feathers.  The Peacock armchair has armrests and is made from solid beech, a wood with a striking natural grain which is known for its strength and durability.  The seat of the armchair is made from rattan making it even more inviting.

The back of the Peacock armchair has at its heart, various wide and flat bars ensuring optimal ergonomic support.  Each rung is positioned so that a seated person’s shoulder blades are exactly level with the rungs.  The replica of the Hans Wegner-inspired wooden Peacock armchair combines originality, comfort, and realness.

The Hans Wegner-inspired Peacock armchair from Diiiz is actually a revised version of the traditional Windsor chair, but with much more sophisticated and elaborate details.  It is thanks to these elaborate details that this accent chair got its name.  Originally called PP550 by Hans Wegner, the wooden accent chair was renamed the Peacock chair by designer Finn Juhl. 

The reproduction of the Peacock armchair, created in 1947, has a modern feel which has allowed it to be a timeless classic throughout the years.  Its Scandinavian and Bohemian style has allowed it to keep up to date with the times.

A true furniture maker at heart, Hans Wegner is considered one of the most innovative and creative designers of his time.  Referred to as the “master of the chair”, he created more than 500 iconic wooden chairs throughout the course of his career.  Hans Wegner is one of the founding fathers of Scandinavian design.  Shortly after the start of his career, he was approached by the architects and designers Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller.  He then worked in collaboration with the master furniture maker Johannes Hansen, who had long been a role model of Hans Wegner.

Extremely well known for his work with wood, H. Wegner was able to bring various qualities leading to flexibility and aesthetic design into a world where furniture was purely functional.  It is for all these reasons and more that Diiiz has reissued many Hans Wegner-inspired chairs such as the Y Wishbone chair, “The chair”, the OX armchair, the Wing chair and the CH25 wooden chair.
